Types of catios

What Catios do we offer?

Every home and every cat is different. We offer three options to fit your cat’s needs with great designs that feel at home in your space.

Outdoor Catios

Custom outdoor catios give indoor cats safe time outside while complementing your home’s architecture. We anchor into studs or use freestanding frames, ease every edge, and finish with pet-safe, low-VOC sealants on ethically sourced wood. Shade and weather options keep it comfortable through Maryland seasons.

  • Best for: patios, decks, small yards, select balconies with HOA approval

  • Highlights: secure mesh, covered roof options, shelves and ramps, optional access tunnel from a window or door, looks built in

  • Options: shade sails, wind or rain panels, planters, hammocks, lighting, removable panels for cleaning

  • Timeline and pricing: typical install 2 to 5 days, pricing usually starts in the low $3,000s after a site visit and measurements

Indoor Cat Walls

Cat walls create vertical playgrounds that save floor space and boost confidence. We map stud locations, space perches for smooth movement, and finish in materials that suit your décor. The result is calm enrichment that feels like part of the room.

  • Best for: condos, townhomes, multipet homes, rentals with owner approval

  • Highlights: stud-anchored mounts, rounded corners, scratch panels, bridges and steps, cozy cubbies

  • Options: wood tones to match trim, painted accents, removable sections for easy patching later

  • Timeline and pricing: typical install 1 to 3 days, pricing commonly starts around $950 and varies with length and accessories

Window Boxes

Window boxes are compact outdoor enclosures that attach at a window so your cat can step out to fresh air and sun. They are smart for small footprints and can be designed to be removable for cleaning or moving.

  • Best for: apartments and condos with limited space, first catio projects, renters with owner approval

  • Highlights: secure mesh, interior perch, drip edge for weather, locking access panel

  • Options: insulated floor pad, clear wind panel, custom widths to match your window, short interior tunnel

  • Timeline and pricing: typical install about 1 day, pricing often starts near $700 and depends on size and finishes

Materials and Safety

We use ethically sourced wood and durable, chew-resistant mesh that balances safety and airflow. All edges are eased smooth. Shelf spacing supports confident climbing and safe descents. Gateways close securely and hardware is chosen for strength and corrosion resistance. Where a project touches the exterior, we review flashing and drainage so moisture moves away from the home. Finishes are selected for low odor and indoor air quality. Every installation is fully insured and covered by a five-year craftsmanship warranty.

Maryland Climate Features

Maryland brings humid summers, coastal breezes, and cool winters. We design with that reality in mind. Shade sails and roof overhangs manage heat and glare. Optional clear wind or rain panels add comfort on blustery or wet days while maintaining views. Ventilation gaps are sized to promote airflow without creating drafts at resting spots. In coastal locations, including Ocean City, we specify additional corrosion protection and fasteners rated for salt air. Snow events are considered in roof style and loading so structures remain sturdy and easy to maintain.

HOA and Permits

We help you navigate approvals with less stress. Our team confirms local rules, provides drawings and photos, and assembles documents that HOAs usually request. Many smaller catios and cat walls do not require a building permit, but rules vary by jurisdiction. If a permit is needed, we explain the steps, timeline, and any fees before work begins. We are also available to answer questions from property managers so your project moves forward smoothly.

Warranty and Care

Quality materials and careful construction keep your catio looking great over time. Light seasonal upkeep is usually all that is needed. A gentle rinse keeps mesh clean. A quick look at hardware once or twice a year confirms tightness and alignment. Cedar or similar woods benefit from periodic resealing to maintain color and durability. Every build includes a five-year craftsmanship warranty. For clients who prefer hands-off care, our optional MonumentCare visit includes a safety inspection, hardware tightening, and cedar reseal on a schedule that fits your home.

Design and Finish Options

A catio should look like it belongs. We match profiles and proportions to your architecture, then finish in tones that work with your palette. Popular choices include natural cedar, warm stains that echo deck boards, and painted trims that align with existing windows and doors. Inside cat walls, we can integrate scratch panels that protect plaster or drywall. We also offer bridges, ramps, and cubbies that create a flowing route from one perch to the next. If you prefer a minimal look, we design with fewer lines and hidden fixings so the silhouette stays clean.

Access and Integration

Access should be simple for both cats and people. Options include a small pet door at a window, a secure tunnel that links a room to the catio, or a short step through a secondary exterior door. We plan human access for cleaning and maintenance with clearances that allow you to reach corners without strain. Where needed, we use removable panels so you can open the space wide for seasonal deep cleaning.

Add Ons and Accessories

Small details can make a big difference. Hammocks add a relaxed resting zone. Planter boxes draw butterflies and birds for gentle viewing while keeping wildlife protected. Perch pads add comfort on cooler days. Clear corner panels block wind without blocking views. For indoor walls, felt or sisal scratch zones give cats a legal place to stretch and sharpen. Lighting can be added for evening visibility and safety.

Budget and Timing Notes

Every project is custom. Pricing reflects size, materials, access, and site conditions. We share a written estimate after we review photos and measurements, then confirm during a site visit. Typical timelines range from a single day for smaller window boxes, to a few days for most walls, to several days for larger outdoor catios. We schedule with weather in mind and keep you updated if conditions shift.

We serve Maryland communities including Annapolis, Baltimore, Bethesda, Columbia, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Laurel, Potomac, Rockville, Silver Spring, and nearby areas. If you don’t see your city listed, see our Locations page for the full list.
